HISTORY OF PIG PICKIN’
In 1985, Mr. Hugh Ellis Walker, along with the rest of the Alumni-Foundation staff, wanted to celebrate the first home football game of the season. Alumni and friends gathered around Shumate Park and literally picked a pig to eat as they enjoyed fellowship and of course, Delta State Football! As a result, Pig Pickin’ was created and has become one of the most popular events on campus. Alumni, friends, current students, and the Cleveland community look forward to a weekend of tailgating, enjoying live entertainment from DSU’s Delta Music Institute, MBN-sanctioned BBQ competition, pep rally, BBQ, food vendors, and DSU football.
“We’re looking forward to this year’s Pig Pickin’, the most exciting weekend on campus! The Alumni Association hopes to see you and your family here enjoying the great food and festivities while cheering on the Statesmen.”
