History of Pig Pickin'

Thirty eight years ago, Mr. Hugh Ellis Walker, along with the rest of the Alumni-Foundation staff, wanted to celebrate the first home football game of the season. Alumni and friends gathered around Shumate Park and literally picked a pig to eat as they enjoyed fellowship and of course, Delta State Football! As a result, Pig Pickin’ was created and has become one of the most popular events on campus. Alumni, friends, current students, and the Cleveland community look forward to a weekend of tailgating, enjoying live entertainment from DSU’s Delta Music Institute, MBN sanctioned BBQ competition, pep rally, BBQ, food vendors, and DSU football.

“We can’t wait to see you on campus at this year’s Pig Pickin’! The Alumni Association has a number of great events planned for the weekend, and we’re looking forward to having you back on campus.”
